Abstract

CBCT angiography: an adapted method for vascularization assessment in pre-clinical model of oro-facial tissue engineering

Recent advances in the field of tissue engineering open promising perspectives for oral tissue regeneration. The development of large animal models allows to emulate clinical situations and it is crucial for the validation of regenerative strategies to move towards clinical application. However, their use must follow the 3Rs principles of Replacement, Reduction and Refinement, and Non-destructive and non-invasive methods for the assessment of tissue regeneration are required. Since It is well established that regenerative process is closely related to the angiogenesis, its assessment is of a deem importance. For preclinical models, several in-vivo imaging techniques such as doppler, echography, MRI and 3D contrast radiographies are available to explore vascularization. However, in the orofacial area, their feasibility can be limited due to the tissues heterogeneity, the complexity of the muscle-skeletal system and the terminal blood supply. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) angiography, by providing three-dimensional data about mineralized tissues and vascularization, can be adapted for maxilla-mandibular blood supply visualization and interestingly implied for characterization of angiogenesis during orofacial tissue regeneration.

Imaging as a piece of art

This lecture will deal with dental diagnosis on xrays with a link to pathology as seen in daily life and in art. Will the dentists recognize dental pathology on the xrays? And will they recognize the same pathology when presenting this visually behind a masterpiece? Dentists will be triggered to test their knowledge through a unique and interactive diagnostic live quiz!
